Tour de France to bring economic benefits to the region

Hosting the start of the Tour de France is set to cost Leeds City Council around £3.6m, the Yorkshire Evening Post has learned. Council leaders have stressed the spending on the ‘Grand Depart’ will help bring major economic benefits to the region, estimated at around £100m. [04/02/2013 YEP]

Public Health multi-million pound shortfall

Councils across Yorkshire are facing a multi-million pound shortfall in the money the Government’s own figures suggest they need to meet new responsibilities on public health. Leeds, where there is a 10-year gap in life expectancy between the richest and poorest parts of the city, will be facing a 14% funding gap, or around £6m. [04/02/2013 YP]
